Rotiboy Hunting in Seoul

16 April 2014

Edit (3 April 2015): A reader who visited this branch reported that it has closed down :C However, here is the list of stores on Rotiboy Korea’s official website.

Do you remember Rotiboy???

These delicious coffee buns used to be sold in Singapore but gradually, the branches closed down one by one :(

I somehow learned that there was Rotiboy in Seoul while researching the trip, and was super excited! Although it’s pretty strange considering the fact that the “essence” of Rotiboy is coffee, and I actually hate coffee hahaha. Don’t ask me how that works out.

One morning, I decided I MUST have it. Immediately.

And thus we began our Rotiboy hunting…

Dunno which stupid erroneous outdated website it was, but it said that there was a branch at Edae. It listed the address and all, and looked completely legit, so we didn’t suspect anything.  But we searched the entire area inside out, and NOTHING.

Crestfallen, I recalled the branch I saw some nights back, when it was closed. I couldn’t remember where it was, but thought it might be at Hongdae, so we headed there. Fu had to circle the entire place himself because my knee was hurting, but still NOTHING.

We then saw one of those “Visitor Center” type buildings and I said to go there and ask. Fu was too sane/embarrassed to ask such a crazy question, but I was absolutely determined to get my Rotiboy, so I asked without batting an eyelid.

The lady was like “Err… Rotiboy? *shifty eyes* Let me check…”

She must be thinking to herself that there really are all sorts of crazies. What kind of tourist comes Korea to eat Rotiboy?!

But whatever. Just give me my Rotiboy, lady!

She finally found the information, and turns out it was at Myeongdong!!!

Armed with a printed map, we made a beeline for the place!

AT. LONG. LAST.

The menu.
The original bun costs 2,000 won each.

HELLO DARLINGS.
How I’ve searched for you!

We bought the original and the new buttermilk flavor. I find that the original still tastes the best!

Fu was SO relieved when we found it, because it means he is finally free again. No need to be shackled to the obsessions of his crazy wife that sees nothing but her craving hahaha!

This post will probably be useful to like, a grand total of 2 people (if even that), but if it helps only 1 other Rotiboy lover, that’s enough!

Hi, I found this post after googling for where to find Rotiboy in Seoul because I remembered eating them a few years ago when I came. You gave great directions, but sadly it looks like this location has closed :( I thought you might want to update your post.

I also used your directions for currency exchange places, and we found a great rate, so thanks for that!

      Hi Laura,

Thanks for the update! It’s sad that they closed down though :( Did you manage to eat it at any other branches?
