Sakura Season 2013

Are you planning on catching the cherry blossoms in Japan this year? Then the forecast that the weather stations recently released would come in handy!

Below are the estimated dates for the start of the cherry blossom season of different areas.

Specifically for Tokyo:

The dates where it’s darkest pink are the estimated dates for best viewing!

Data and images taken from here. I just did some simple translation :)

Best spots for 花見 (hanami, lit. flower viewing) aka cherry blossom viewing in Tokyo:

  • Ueno Park (上野公園)
Unbelievably crowded during the peak of hanami, but nothing can beat the view of the endless stretch of sakura trees!
  • Shinjuku Gyoyen National Garden (新宿御苑)
A place I want to visit this year! Friends have told me it’s a great place to view the blossoms, and not as crowded. Plus, there’s the Weeping Cherry tree that I want to see!
  • Chidorigafuchi (千鳥ケ淵)
Splendid view of cherry blossoms that line the moat of the former Edo Castle. Great view even at night!

Ahhh, I can’t wait for the season to start! :D
