Japan has made me a serial snacker

Honestly, when I was in Singapore, I hardly snacked. It’s an entirely different story here in Japan though.

Somehow even the usual flavors looks about a million times more appealing. Japan also makes a lot of unique and funky flavored snacks. Not to mention all the 限定 (limited edition) flavors!!! XD I’m an absolute sucker for those lol.

I’m like a moth to a flame when it comes to snacks in Japan. I try not to allow myself near the snacks area in supermarkets or conbinis because I easily go out of control :S

Let me share with you the reasons for my addiction. In pictures ;D

First, the more traditional Japanese snacks:

jap
Strawberry Daifuku Mochi
A small round mochi (glutinous rice cake) stuffed with red bean filling and a WHOLE STRAWBERRY
crunch13
Milk karinto. Sweet and deep-fried, it is made primarily of flour, yeast, and brown sugar.
This one is a “modern” version with the addition of milk.
biscuit2
Triple green tea combi!
I love raw hatsubashi (top left), which is made from glutinous rice flour, sugar and cinnamon. It has a soft, mochi-like texture and usually wrapped around red bean paste. In this case, it’s green tea filling!

Leading on to biscuits:

biscuit8
Highland vanilla ice-cream flavor
Delicious when you chill and eat!
biscuit7
Winter special: Maple milk flavor
biscuit6
Special pocky flavors
biscuit5
See the 冬季限定? Winter limited edition. I’m there.
Vanilla white chocolate mmm.
biscuit4
Matcha milk senbei! This was delicious! But it was 期間限定 (limited edition) :(
biscuit9
Grilled scallops with soy sauce flavor
biscuit3
There’s about 20 odd flavors of these tubes. They’re pretty good and so easy keep popping into the mouth one after another because they’re perfectly bite-sized >_<
biscuit
The milk chocolate one is one of my favorite biscuits! The green tea one is good, but not as good as the milk chocolate heh

Now on to candy!

candy2
Durian hi-chew!!!
candy
Cotton candy hi-chew :D
crunch12
The matryoshka packs are red tea-flavored gummies with strawberry filling!
And yes, avocado shrimp. Sounds delicious, but actually it was quite disappointing. No taste of shrimp at all, and the avocado was barely-there :(

Now on to chips… my biggest weakness among them all.

crunch6
Tuna mayo jagariko (potato sticks).
Before you scrunch your nose at tuna, it’s actually very mild and not off-putting!
Again, it’s 期間限定〜
crunch3
Potato chips drizzed with salted caramel sauce :D
crunch2
Cheese fondue doritos. Yum!
crunch
Tarako (salted pollock roe) with butter.
A twist from the usual frito lay, no?
crunch5
Avocado cheese. It sounds good but actually it wasn’t mind-blowing.
crunch4
Mentaiko (marinated pollock roe) cream sauce jagariko.
期間限定〜
crunch7
Pepper bacon flavored.
Strange thing is, I don’t even like pepper. Or bacon. But I was intrigued at this weird combination of selection and flavors.
crunch11
Limited to Hokkaido, capital of scallops (and seafood in general)
Scallop butter flavor, this one is!
crunch10
Soy sauce mayonnaise flavor.
Strangely good!
crunch8
I love cheese. I love stars. I also love Pringles (afterthought).
How to resist buying something with such cute packaging?!
Oh, also 期間限定〜

Ahhh, how did you find the interesting mix of flavors offered here? I only posted what I managed to find pictures of… so yeah, this unhealthy love is quite bad T_T

But ya, I assure you I’m not like stuffing my face with snacks all day. I eat at most one a day! (ok, very occasionally two. but sometimes zero too!) My BMI is actually in the underweight range, so I can at least say I won’t get diseases because of obesity lol.
