I love pretty nails, although admittedly I’m not very good at painting them.
In the past, I couldn’t even do as simple a thing as paint a smooth coat! The color will be thick in some places, thin to the point you can see the nail in other places. Then when i try to even it out, it gets all clumpy and bumpy and basically just streaks like mad. Truly a nightmare :G
Other people make it look so easy, so natural, and I feel like an idiot when I ask them how they do it. They look at me as if I’m asking them how to breathe T_T
I feel like I’m doing the same thing as them (I try to copy my manicurists) but why the results so different?! For a long time I was deeply envious and resentful lol.
I’m much better now, although some days the shadows of the past still come back to haunt me lol.
This is my most difficult manicure to date, and I really liked how it turned out!
It’s actually simpler than it looks!
If I can do it, so can you! (“Rin can paint, so can you” ?)
Even if you cannot paint a smooth coat like my old self, no worries! Because the technique used in this design is sponging, which will cover up any unevenness! WIN!
I tore tiny pieces off a makeup sponge that I got from Daiso.
Daiso also sells the dotting tool!
I saw this design on Chalkboard nails and loved it so much I went out and placed a rather large order of polish (also bought other colors not required for this design, heh) because I didn’t have almost all the colors required.
I couldn’t find the exact colors she used, so I researched and found similar colors instead. These are the colors I used:
How to paint:
- Apply base coat
- Apply 2 coats of black
- Sponge on middle colors in order from left to right
- Fill in empty spaces with glitter polish
- Use a dotting tool (or toothpick, etc) to dot on white polish for stars
- Finish off with top coat
That’s it!
My stars are a bit large-ish compared to hers, and more similar to her other design instead. Also a lovely design and something I want to try!
I was a bit inpatient and didn’t wait for the white “stars” to dry completely, resulting in streaks, but they kinda resemble shooting stars to me, so it’s all good ;D
Ending off with a picture of the other hand:
